Deskripsi Singkat

Moonlighting adalah album pertama The Rippingtons, yang direkam pada bulan Juli/Augustus 1986. Salah satu lagunya berjudul She Likes to Watch menjadi lagu unggulan yang menjadi identitas band ini. Pada awalnya album ini dirilis oleh perusahaan rekaman Alfa (Jepang) dan dirilis di Amerika Serikat oleh perusahaan rekaman Passport.

Album ini juga terlibat beberapa musisi lain, yaitu David Benoit, Dave Koz dan Kenny G. Kenny G hanya terlibat di dalam pembuatan album dan tidak ikut dalam konser tour.

In 1986, guitarist Russ Freeman enlisted some musician friends to “moonlight” as a band called the Rippingtons and record an album called, appropriately, Moonlighting. And what a group he assembled! The players included Kenny G, David Benoit, and Dave Koz, who went on to contemporary jazz and smooth-jazz stardom — as did the Rippingtons, whose lineup subsequently changed. Moonlighting is now widely considered a contemporary jazz classic, and one of its highlights is “She Likes To Watch.” This sprightly, Kenny G-led tune exemplifies Freeman’s talent for composing catchy melodies and remains a genre staple all these years later.

Rippingtons

The Rippingtons dibentuk pada tahun 1986 oleh Russ Freeman, seorang gitaris yang pernah dinominasikan menerima Grammy. Band ini sejak awal telah mencatat kesuksesan dengan album pertamanya “Moonlighting” yang memperoleh penghargaan dari Jazziz magazine sebagai The #1 Most Influential Contemporary Jazz Album of All Time.

The Rippingtons beberapa kali berhasil menempatkan pada peringkat pertama Billboard, dan juga mendapatkan beberapa kali Oasis Awards, termasuk sebagai Group Of The Year pada tahun 2001 dan 2002, selain itu juga Achievement In Video, 1999.
